Christmas Book Club 2015
We read the Twelve Clues of Christmas for book club. We had dinner: a taco bar with all the fixings.
Then we played two games: the first I had come up with synonyms for a number of book titles of books we have read over the years and everyone had to try to decipher them and figure out the real titles.
For example,
A Home in a Suburb of Salt Lake: House at Riverton
Awe, Amazement: Wonder
The Tale of Navidad: The Christmas Story
Twelve Ways to Solve a Murder at Noel: 12 Clues of Christmas
Protecting my Son: Defending Jacob
Murdering the General: Killing Patton
A Male Protected from the Rain: Umbrella Man and other stories
Getting Rid of the Dirt: Coming Clean
The second game was like Telestrations. We had sets of index cards. The first card had a word or phrase on it that was somehow related to Twelve Clues of Christmas. You looked at the word, then turned to the next card and drew a picture of it. Then you passed it to the next person who looked at your picture and wrote what they thought it was on the next card. And so on. Draw, pass, write, pass. Many of them stayed pretty true to the word or phrase, but some of them turned out very funny.
We also did our annual book exchange and talked and laughed and exchanged gifts and enjoyed each other's company.

Book Club at the Cabin
On July 31, it was Book Club. It was Becky's turn to host, and we held book club at Jackie's sister-in-law's cabin up near Oakley (past Park City). It is beautiful up there. Not everyone was able to make it due to illness and vacations, but the seven of us that went had a wonderful time. We missed Kemra, Kim, Penni, Marla and Liz. Becky had us each read a different book that featured a character diagnosed with Asperger syndrome (books: Marcelo in the Real World, The White Bicycle, The Kitchen Daughter, Colin Fischer, Mindblind, and The London Eye Mystery). We discussed the unique gifts and interests that our characters had due to this syndrome as well as the challenges it presented for them and for those that loved them. We had a great discussion. We talked and laughed and ate. Becky made delicious chocolate cake. So yummy. We stayed up until 3:30 AM talking.
Everyone was up by around 7:30. Then we ate breakfast (bagels, coffee cake, yogurt, fruit, oj, milk...all provided by Becky). About 10:30, we headed back to Salt Lake. It was such a fun trip. We hope this will become a new tradition.
Here's a few pictures. I am sorry the first one is so blurry.
